Already a week since I crossed the border into my 40's. What an amazing day it was! Birthdays have always been a little tough for me for a variety of reasons, but this one?
This one rocked!
Daniel and I were talking about it a couple days ago, maybe, and I told him that this was the best birthday I could remember. How much it meant to me to have my little brother and his wife and daughter there. And our friends, Kevin and Amy and their daughters. And my mom's cousin, his wife, their son.
Just sitting there with these great, funny, loving folks, drinking good whiskey, eating ice cream cake that was--let's just tell it like it is--divine, I thought to myself, This is what a birthday should be like.
Exactly this:

Kevin and Amy's gift was in a gift bag, filled with these gold foil filaments. Their daughter Elizabeth, and my niece Olivia, thought it would be fun to sing Happy Birthday to me and throw those over my head.
Festive, dude. Like so:

And seven days later, this girl's feeling very, very thankful and full and so, so happy.
Hey, I'm still basking...
