This Special Month
October 14, 2008

October is a special month. It's the month my parents got married, and because of some serendipitous circumstances related to their anniversary, it's also the month Daniel and I got married.

And it's the month two other very special people tied the knot.

I met Jill in 1990, way back before long-distance communication was so readily available around the globe via the Internet. We were pen pals, brought together by our mutual interest in Richard Grieco--no comments from the peanut gallery on that one; we were young and naive, what can I say?

Our friendship developed quickly. We wrote letters back and forth, and then we talked on the phone a lot, and finally I moved to Minnesota, a place I always wanted to live, and we got an apartment together. We weathered lots of storms, Jill and I, and through the torrents life sent our way, she became what I call "my chosen sister."

We thought we would end up in twin rocking chairs on the porch of some old folks home, the two of us old spinsters. But then magick happened, and that future we thought so certain changed drastically.

Not long after Daniel and I found each other, Jill found her love, too. His name is Eli, and he is such a good match for my best friend. It was with great joy that I stood beside my sister on her wedding day, as she stood beside me on mine.

Happy Anniversary, Jill and Eli, with much love. Maybe the four of us will wind up on that porch someday, rocking in rhythm with the wind and reminiscing about the old days together.
