This is a blog I read regularly, and the woman who writes this blog wrote a letter to Sarah Palin that I think is worth sharing with you guys.
Now, I'm not a great political mind. I have my opinions, most of them informed, but I don't do a lot of debating and discussing of politics. I tend to refrain from banging my head against the brick walls of either Republican or Democrat fundamentalism. People get really invested in what they believe, whether it's political or religious, and I tend to shy away from challenging the personal investments people make in these two touchy arenas.
And I don't readily attach labels to myself, either. I guess the labels that fit me best are Centrist and Libertarian, but even that doesn't quite say it.
However, I have to admit, given the two choices we've got--I mean, if they are the only two choices--I'm leaning toward Mr. Obama. There are certain things he's done and said with which I strongly disagree. At the same time, I am impressed with his lack of mudslinging, with his public respectfulness.
The Republicans made a big mistake, I think, in selecting Sarah Palin as McCain's running mate. Because Hillary Clinton did not snare the Democratic Party's nomination--I have to admit, I'm glad of that--the Republicans seem to think they can use the disappointment Ms. Clinton's supporters felt to manipulate them to switch sides.
After all, Sarah Palin is a woman, and women are interchangeable, right? The disillusioned Hillary Clinton fans will naturally ignore their disagreement with the political agenda of the Republicans and just vote for the McCain/Palin ticket because half of it shares their anatomy.
I don't think women are that stupid.
I'm not a Clinton supporter. (I would be more inclined to respect her if she'd dumped Bill's cheating ass, fuck the political consequences) But I wager the women who do support Ms. Clinton know the difference between Sarah and Hillary, personally and politically.
I can't and wouldn't speak for all American women, but I don't vote with my vagina.
And I find it offensive that the leaders and handlers of the Republican party seem to think all women do.
