Weather Here

Hibernation
January 14, 2009

Cold, cold, cold today. Last time I checked the Weather Channel website, the temperature was 11 degrees. (Of course, the high forecast for today is only 9 degrees, so figure that out.) Tomorrow, it's supposed to be even colder. I like Winter. I like living in a climate where there are four distinctive seasons. I feel better here. Both my mind and body feel more grounded in Nature with regular cycles, the turning of the Wheel.

But this kind of cold makes me feel more like the mammal I am at the core. These low temperatures--I think our low overnight was -3 degrees, and -1 is forecast for tonight's low--make me feel a little nervous. I want to burrow. I want to hibernate. I used to live in Minnesota, and I don't remember ever feeling this way when temperatures during the Winter were regularly below zero.

Another sign I'm getting older.

This morning I have been working on photo management. Getting printed pictures into albums or envelopes. Getting new digital images uploaded to my iPhoto program and then to Scrapbook Pictures to get prints ordered.

Here's a recent picture Daniel took that I absolutely love.

And here is one of us taken on New Year's Day, 2009.

Soon, as days pass, fading January into February into March, the temperatures will climb, and Nature will awaken from Her long, long sleep. For now, I'm content to enjoy the modern technology of central heat and watch the deep mid-Winter weather from indoors.
