Five Things I'm Loving, Five Things I'm Loathing
June 02, 2008

As I countdown the days left of life in my thirties, I'm thinking of things I love and things I loathe.

Let's start with the love. I'm totally loving:

Blogs--There are so many people writing so much cool stuff, and I especially love the creativity blogs. So inspiring!

Two and a Half Men on DVD--Daniel and I so love watching shows on DVD. No commercials! We've already laughed out loud through two seasons, and we plan to get Season 3 soon. My favorite episode right now, from Season 2, is "Squab, Squab, Squab, Squab, Squab." Totally hilarious.

Challenging myself physically--I don't think there's much that can be wrong with the human body that can't be somewhat improved by exercise, so I've really been trying to kick myself into higher gear physically. One day last week, I did a two-mile walk in the morning, then 44 minutes or so on the treadmill (interrupted by the phone),and then Daniel and I went for a walk around the neighborhood, another 2 miles. Today, I went to a local park that has lots of great hiking trails and walked for 45 minutes, and then I walked from Daniel's office building to the library, which took about 30 minutes. Feels so good to feel my muscles working for me, and I know that the more I do, the better I'll feel.

Scrapbooking--Well, of course this made the list! Still loving all the raw materials and the creativity involved, as well as getting those photographs into artistic presentations and into albums. So rocks, so will always, always love it and want to spend every minute of every freaking day doing it.

Discovery--Learning is so important to me, and the more I learn, the more I want to know. I've been reading about humanism and Thomas Jefferson lately, and I've been re-discovering Victoria magazine, which has been my very favorite for a long, long time. It ceased publication sometime in 2003 (I think), and then started up again last fall. It goes without saying that I'm totally loving the new magazine, and it so rocks that I have so many back issues of the original that I can flip through them until the light fades every day of the week if I so choose...you know...if I'm not whiling away the day scrapbooking.

Right now, I'm totally loathing:

All things political--I've been fed up with the Republicans for...oh, about eight years, and the Democrats have been a catastrophic disappointment. I'm newly disgusted with the Libertarian Party, though I have to admit they are more efficient, as it took them a mere weekend to select a nominee. He happens to be probably the worst choice possible for the Libertarians since he helped author the Defense of Marriage Act, and to add insult to injury, he's got scripture all over his website. (I feel like Princess Leia if Obi Wan had let her down. It felt like the Libertarians were our only hope.)

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart taking lengthy vacations--Dude! This is the only place I can get news without spin. Come back...! Oh, wait. He's back tonight. Watching him as I type this. Go, Jon, go.

Dietary restrictions--Okay...it's not that I want to eat like a bear, but to have to analyze and worry about every morsel just...well, it exhausts me and makes me want to skip eating altogether.

Religious nonsense--I try to be respectful of people's beliefs, but that certain religious whack jobs are quite adept at influencing the government to value their faith in their particular fairytales over the rights of tax-paying, law-abiding citizens pisses me off greatly. Separate people. S-E-P-A-R-A-T-E. Look it up.

Ass-riding drivers--Doesn't matter what time of day or what the posted speed limit is or what road I'm on, some car is always riding ass on mine. Sometimes I pull over, sometime I cuss, sometimes I just go the speed limit and make them suck it up. Always, always, I fucking hate it. I'm still contemplating a bumper sticker that simply says "Get off my ass."

Also totally loving how easy it was to come up with five things I love, while it took a little thought to come up with five things I loathe. That's a half-full glass, baby!
